Parking fines increase

New rates take effect next year

The Grinch came early to Portland.

On Dec. 21, the Multnomah County Circuit Court announced a five dollar increase in fines for overtime parking violations and failure to display current vehicle registration.

The only good news? The increase won't take effect until Jan. 2, 2012.

The increase will raise the standard overtime parking fine to $39. Tickets for failure to display a current registration will rise to $65. If the tags are more then three months expired, the fine will be $140.

The court splits the fine revenue with the city, keeping 60 percent and giving Portland 40 percent.
